Hans Hesselein, RLA, Partner
Hans is the founder and partner of Apiary Studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, a design-build landscape practice devoted to adaptive reclamation of urban decay. He has over 20 years of experience working in design, construction, nursery production, possessing in particular an obsession with craft and detailing. He is a licensed landscape architect and holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from North Carolina State University. Prior to starting Apiary Studio, Hans served as Executive Director of the Gowanus Canal Conservancy in Brooklyn, NY, where he was responsible for developing and managing green infrastructure projects, watershed planning initiatives, and volunteer stewardship programs.
Martha Keen, Partner
Martha is a partner at Apiary Studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, where she works as a co- creative director and manages its horticultural arm, including planting design, garden installation and maintenance operations. She is a graduate of the Professional Gardener Program at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and the history of math and science from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Previously, Martha worked at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York for the Design and Construction department and as rosarian at Wyck House in Philadelphia, a National Historic Landmark containing America’s oldest rose garden.
